OPERATING POLICIES

Please enjoy browsing through our collection of second-hand Jewish books on the open bookshelves. Books are sorted by general category, and categories are arranged alphabetically, from American Jewish Life to Yiddish.

Take home up to three free books for yourself. They are free and yours to keep. Really. (Yes, you can return them if you don’t want to keep them).

DONATION POLICY

The Book Shuk welcomes your donations of second-hand Jewish books in good condition.

We are unable to accept donations of books in poor condition or of non-Jewish books. We are unable to accept old prayer books, bibles and other sacred Jewish books in poor condition because they require burial. Please take them to a local synagogue for burial. We can recommend a service that will pick up old Jewish books for a small fee. Please call if you are unsure about your items.

You may drop off books to the receptionist at either JCC or to CJE at any time.

VOLUNTEERING FOR THE BOOK SHUK

The Book Shuk seeks volunteers to sort and shelve new donations. Volunteers need sufficient Jewish literacy to be able to properly categorize books. Best for flexible people who are happy to work independently. Commitment varies between 1-3 hours/week according to the donations received. Possibility for other limited administrative tasks, depending on interests of volunteers. Hours are very flexible. Minimum age - 18. Training provided. Location: Owings Mills JCC or CJE. Please contact Rivkah Lambert Adler at radler@cjebaltimore.org or call 410 735-5010 for more information.
